The Reason for the Season (why are we doing this?)

I am giving you short notice and Chap.2 is rather long, but if you can, be ready on Thursday to discuss the Reflection questions and The Change Project questions at the end of the chapter.  Answer the following questions in the comment section:
  • What were the three wrong motives for change that Tim Chester listed in this chapter?  Can you give a one or two sentence summary of each one?
  • Also feel free to comment below with any quotes or ideas that were insightful and helpful from this chapter.
  • I posted a sermon by Eric Mason called "Community".  I could not link it here but it readily posted to facebook so I used that.  If you want burn it to a cd it is available on itunes on a podcast under Epiphany Fellowship.  The sermon was delivered on 10/11/09.  Comment when you have finished the sermon about what was helpful.
  • We'll talk on Thursday about where we will go next considering the Philippians passage.
Look forward to seeing you on Thursday.

Let's Get On With It! (Week 2-3)

Let's get specific about what you would like to change as per Tim Chester's book.  Answer the following questions from the first chapter in the comment section:
  • What would you like to change?  Think of an area of your life you would like to change.  It can be an attitude, a behavior, or a Christian virtue or fruit of the Spirit that is lacking in your life.  Be specific.
  • Is your change project about changing your behavior or emotions rather than someone else's or maybe a specific circumstance?  (You don't have to answer, just think about it)
  • What would it mean for you to be more like Jesus?  What would Jesus think or be like in your situation?  Can you think of any teachings or stories that illustrate that?
  • Write a summary of what you would like to change.
Listen to Tim Keller's sermon How to Change and comment about what you learned, had insights about, and/or what encouraged you.

When we meet we will talk about the Philippians passage you read.

Together We Go

  • Read Philippians all the way through.  We will concentrate on Philippians 4, so read chapter 4 in various translations using Bible Gateway (about 4 or 5).
  • If you get the book You Can Change in time, read the Introduction and Chapter 1 and be ready to discuss the questions at the end of Chapter 1 on Thursday.
  • Think about a specific personal growth issue that you would like to change (the book will help you with this; it calls it a "personal change project")
  • Listen to and comment below on C.J. Mahaney's Interrogating the Legalist Within.
